Dr. Gizem Alper, Esq. (Consultant) is a bilingual legal practitioner and academic with over 20 years of experience in cross-border legal matters. She worked and studied across three continents (in-house and in global law firms) and has Turkish, European, and U.S. law expertise. As such, she helps facilitate the dialogue and bridge the cultural gap in cross-border commercial transactions. She is currently the Global Editor of the "go-to" Pace CISG Database at the Institute of International Commercial Law.
She earned a master's in European Business Law from Leiden University and U.S. Legal Practice from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. She holds a P.hD degree in law from Istanbul University, where she wrote about the ultra vires doctrine as a legal tool for ensuring justice, fairness, and equity- principles that are crucial to dispute management and sustainability.
She is enlisted as an arbitrator and mediator with various international institutions, including WIPO and LCIA. She is a member of USCIB Arbitration Committee, Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center (SVAMC), Arbitral Women, LCIA European Users Council, BVI Arbitration Group, City Bar of New York, New York State Bar Association, and Istanbul Bar Association. She also serves as the Chair for the Commercial Law and Uniform State Laws Committee at the City Bar of New York.
She frequently acts as an advisor, judge, and arbitrator in various international moot court competitions, where she mentors students in arbitration and mediation.
Representative areas include, inter alia, international commercial transactions and corporate structuring- including tech- startups, contractual dispute prevention, contract negotiation and facilitation, cross-border contractual disputes (specifically those related to the CISG and UNIDROIT principles), copyright infringement disputes, and workplace disputes concerning C- Suite.
